one baby girl & one baby boy {newborn photography}

I just love photographing newborn babies, and the last few months there seemed to be a baby boom, and I was blessed to capture some sweet memories for a bunch of wonderful families! Today on the blog I wanted to feature some shots from a baby girl’s newborn session, and some from a baby boy’s newborn session…and let me tell you it’s hard to narrow down which shots to share! I love capturing the simplicity of a new baby, their calm sleeping face, and the little details of their tiny features. Baby boys tend to be more feisty during their sessions, and baby girls more laid back, but every session with a newborn is different and always surprises me and keeps me on my toes. I hope you enjoy looking at my favorite shots from these sessions, as much as I enjoyed photographing them…

this first shot turned out to be one of my absolute favorites, baby A is laying on his Daddy’s army fatigues..

And now for some shots of one of the sweetest little baby girls, she was so sleepy and tiny and a delight photograph! She reminded me a lot of how my daughter looked when she was a newborn…

Carol & James {a golden november wedding}

Carol & James are a truly lovely couple, and I was so happy to be asked to photograph their beautiful and simple wedding day. Light pink flowers, a small wedding party, shooting the portraits at golden hour, couldn’t have asked for a more perfect situation for me to shoot in! (although come to think of it, it was quite chilly that day! But we made out just fine) Carol is a friend of ours from church, and we all miss her now that she has moved away to be with her new hubby, but we are so happy for you both as you have found each other at the perfect time, and are enjoying your married life I am sure! Thank you both so much for having me & Chris to shoot your special day, we loved being there to capture it! Now let’s watch their day unfold in pictures…

around the house this winter…

I thought it would be fun to give a little glimpse into how we spend our days at home this winter…….Yesterday while waiting for the bath to fill up for Ben I noticed that I hadn’t heard Mia for a little bit, so I crept down the hall and peeked into her room, and this is what I saw….

Reading Cinderella, all curled up on her bed….only 2.5 years old, and it seems she knows the joy and contentment in reading a good book, in a quiet room. We love to read around here! { Notice the old cell phone and elephant on her little head board, a few of her favorite possessions…}

Ben enjoying his traditional after school bath, the first thing he tells us when he gets in the door from school “Mama can I have a bath?!?” it’s become a good little routine for him, to come in and do that, helps him calm down and chill out after a busy day at school.

Then there is our little puppy Ruby who has been a bit down lately with the cold and rainy weather…a little game of fetch and a couple treats perks her right up, but she definitely misses summer time…don’t we all??

Since the weather has been so yucky lately, we haven’t been able to spend as much time as we usually do outside…we are keeping warm with comfy socks…

and the kids have been finding fun things to do indoors, such as this lovely game of “restaurant” they played a few days ago…

We have been enjoying lot’s of arts & crafts time and baking as well…

We have noticed that Ben sure does have a creative artistic side to him, he’s also a bit of a perfectionist already, whereas his little sister is happy to mix colours, makes messes, and colour outside the lines, a free spirit if you will…enjoying some afternoon play doh time…

Ben makes me laugh everyday without fail!

Piling the toys up on the couch, Mia loves to play with cars just as much as Ben does…

They sure do love playing together, of course they get on eachothers last nerve, but they are also the best of friends i’d say…

Our days are always full of lot’s of hugs…

tons of smiles & laughs…both our kids sure love to laugh…(and scream, and run around like crazy monkeys! lol just being honest)

and of course the mama with the camera out all the time…

Winter isn’t so bad around here….but we sure do miss spending the days outside, and will look forward to their return in a few months! I love my family & being home with my kids…nothin’ better…

york region children’s photographer {fall mini sessions} & year in review…

The new year came so fast, I didn’t get a chance to do a year end wrap-up post like I had hoped to do, also because someone hacked my blog, and really did a number on it! It took my hubby a week or more to fix it! Thankfully everything is all back in order, and my website and blog even got a new more stream-lined look, and got updated with tons of new photos! I am not known for being good with computer stuff, but have been forced to learn more about it since I started this business, my little macbook has done me good this last year, and so I reorganized and updated my desk this past week as a little gift to say “thanks” I am forever grateful to my husband Chris for doing all the behind the scenes website/blog designing stuff, my logo, and pretty much anything to do with computer updating, hard drives ect. I couldn’t do this business without him! He is even my second shooter at most weddings, and does an amazing job taking the photos of the “guys” before the ceremony for me, and keeps me on my toes throughout the wedding day, reminding me of certain things, bringing me water, making sure I don’t lose all my lens caps, and holding my uber fashionable kelly moore camera bag for me. Thanks hubby!! Of course I am also thankful for my parents, Chris’ parents & Rachel (my cousin) for helping out with babysitting for my weddings, this was SO helpful, and the kids love you all so much!
This fall was my busiest season yet, and I had a wonderful time capturing lot’s of engagement sessions, weddings, families & newborns, I have some good material to blog over the winter months while us canadian photographers go into hibernation. But today I finally want to share some of my favorite images from this fall’s mini-session day. If I remember correctly it was close to +30 degrees with the humidity, not what you’d expect for a fall session! My friend & college photography student Lauren, stayed with me the whole day as my wonderful assistant, grabbing and lifting props for me, and even holding onto two big dogs leashes! Mini-session day 2011 went so great, and I was so happy to see so many repeat families come out again this year, it’s always great to shoot the same kids over and over because you get to know them, and they get to know you, which helps in the picture taking process. So…thank you again to all my clients/friends for another wonderful season, I look forward to another year of learning and growing more, and capturing more precious memories! And without further delay…some compilations of the children from mini-session day 2011!

Lisa & Shaun {A November Wedding}

A few months ago I got an e-mail from one of my old college dorm mates Lisa, she was asking if I was available to shoot her upcoming wedding, I was so honored to be asked, and told her YES right away! Lisa and I did our first year of college together and lived just down the hall from one another, I remember many giggles, talks, and fun times with her, and I was so thrilled to hear she met the man of her dreams, and was ready to tie the knot. Her wedding day was lovely and as you will see from the photos she looked simply gorgeous, I so enjoyed capturing your special day Lisa, and I hope you and Shaun will enjoy the memories captured for years to come…enjoy your first Christmas together…and now for a preview of their wedding day…..

This weekend was full of new baby sessions, one of which was our cousins’ first little baby girl! She was such a doll, and was so good during her photo session, we are so happy for Amanda and Dave on becoming parents, you are doing an amazing job, enjoy these photos of your sweet little girl! p.s. after my son saw these photos he said “why do you always take the baby’s pictures when they are naked?” hehe, I told him it’s only ok with new little babies!

J & M {Engagement Photography} Toronto, Ontario

This fall has been full of e-sessions, and I am truly enjoying it! I shot this engagement session in Toronto a few weeks back, and I am delighted to share it with you today! Usually my shooting style is in nature with lot’s of rustic fences, trees, tall grass and fields…so when this lovely couple asked me to shoot their session right downtown Toronto, I knew it would be out of my box, and of course fun, I love trying new things. They lead me to a bunch of awesome spots near harbour front, and also at U of T, which is SUCH a neat locale, definitely want to go back and shoot there again as I don’t think we even tipped the iceberg on all the spots available there. Check out some of my faves! I wish Jackie and Matt all the best at their wedding IN Australia in a few months! If only I could go shoot it They will be using these shots to take over with them to Australia and use in a guest book, GREAT idea!!
