a sweet little babe

July 31, 2010

I am keeping up with my blog posts as the next few weeks are going

to be busy in photography land, and this morning I had a great

time photographing precious baby A, a sweet brand new baby boy!

He was making the cutest squeaks & noises during our session,

and his Mama suggested we put him in some clothes, and it just goes

to show Mama is always right, because as soon as we dressed him,

he was out cold in a deep sleep!  He was such a cute little model,

and we got so many great shots! Thanks for having me out today

S & H, it was great to see you and your little blessing.

Enjoy your “sneak peek!”

“it’s a beautiful day..”

July 3, 2010

A few weeks ago I had the extreme privilege of capturing P & M’s wedding day.  I was so thrilled to do this, and I even got to bring my hubby along as my sidekick/assistant, it was great to have him there with me, helping me out and supporting me.  It was a beautiful very sunny day, and the bride & groom were so relaxed and happy, it was a pleasure to be a part of their special day, and I enjoyed it so much!  It was hard to narrow down the images I wanted to share from the day, so here is a little overview for you to enjoy!

importance of family portraits

June 26, 2010

Having special family portraits to look back on and cherish

is a wonderful blessing, and I love to help give people their memories

to share with others, and live on in frames or albums.

A photo can say a thousand words, and can mean so much.

A tiny, wrinkly newborn, a chubby 6 month old learning to sit on his own,

a 5 year with a toothless grin, a new mom with a growing belly…

all are special moments to be caught in time.

I feel privileged helping families to preserve these memories,

and I enjoy the process so much!  And yes it IS a process.

When a photographer goes to a locale to shoot a family’s photos,

that is only the beginning!  Much time is spent in editing while the

photographers artistic touch is put on each image, and much care

goes into the final product that is sent to the client, who is eagrly

awaiting their arrival.  Photographers (like me) work to provide an

extremely valuable service to preserve memories for a lifetime of enjoyment.

DSC_4667

DSC_4723

DSC_4691

DSC_4421

In the past few weeks you may have noticed some pricing changes for

shelley k photography, you will now have the option of purchasing

your digital negatives so that you can print as many as you like and

share around with family or friends, OR I can do the work for you

by having your photos printed and sent to you in top notch condition.

Albums, canvases, birth announcements, ect are all available upon

your request, and I look forward to the creative opportunities to come!

Some have inquired why I now charge for my prints, the answer is

simple, much care and effort goes into every photo, and wether

you get your portraits done at Wal Mart, Sears, or by a professional

on location Photographer, no one gives away their prints for free.

The artistry a photographer offers is very valuable, and

their service is worth the investment to any family!

I am thankful to all of my dear clients who have supported me,

and I can’t wait to meet more as the business grows!

Take care everyone, and don’t forget to join my new business page on FB!

TTD = Trash The Dress

June 14, 2010

Trash The Dress photo sessions don’t really mean you have to “trash” your dress,

it can be a great excuse to feel special and get some beautiful

photos of yourself in a favorite dress, and usually the dress is just fine afterwards,

just a little clean fixes it right up!

A favorite formal dress, a prom dress, a funky dress, a wedding dress…

many possibilities and many cool locations to have fun in!

I was so excited for this TTD session with Syd, I knew exactly where I wanted to go

and I knew she would be up for the challenge!  Syd you were such a great

sport, and I had so much fun with you and Amanda!

Can’t wait to do the next TTD, and since I can’t wait the next 2 people to book a TTD

session with Shelley K Photography will receive $20 off the session fee,

yes that’s right $20 off the session fee for the first 2 ladies to book a TTD!!!

E-mail me asap if you are interested, can’t wait for the next one!

And now for your sneak peeks…

little moments

June 11, 2010

DSC_1138Mia Grace is our little sweet pea,

tiny, precious, cute, silly, beautiful, loving…

she loves to be photographed, she will look right into the lens with her deep brown eyes…

DSC_0820

Ben, aka “B” is our spunky monkey…

funny, imaginative, kind, full of life & smiles, BIG personality…

He however does NOT like to be photographed, hehe…so this big posed smile was a rare

occasion I had to snap!

So yes I do have more photos of Mia, because I have more opportunities to capture

her cuteness…Ben will tease me and pretend to pose with an adorable expression for 2

seconds, then right as I snap he runs away!  I suppose it’s a bit of a game for him, but I

know he will come around one day and embrace his Mommy photographer, he’s had

the camera in his face since he was born, so it’s bound to happen some time!

Oh, we love our little “firecracker” boy, he says the most hilarious things,

I really should write them all down.

And now from the girl who loves to be photographed,

here are some sweet daddy/daughter moments…

3 little amigos…

June 3, 2010

Children are definitely one of my first loves, since I was young myself

I have always loved children, and been intrigued by them and always

wanting to be near them,

I guess that’s why a JK teacher was my job

before I had my own children, and I absolutely loved it!

Seeing their precious curious faces,

listening to the “darndest” things that they had to say, watching them learn and grow.

Children are definitely a blessing from the Lord, and I always love meeting new ones besides my own two dears.

I had the chance to photograph some pretty cute siblings this past weekend…

We originally started snapping at a park, but I noticed a forested area behind,

so we went to check it out, and found some really cool trees and shady spots to shoot.

Despite a few attacks from mosquitos we had a great time, and here are some of

my faves from the shoot!

another beautiful baby belly!

May 26, 2010

I met a great new couple last weekend, who I really enjoyed working with,

they booked me for maternity photos, originally wanting “studio” shots, but with the gorgeous

spring weather we’ve had I suggested we do it outdoors, and I am SO glad we did!

I am always thankful to meet new clients, thank you to S & H who were so easy going, and ready for anything,

even sitting on a hill of dandelions (which unfortunately leave BIG yellow marks just to warn you!)

Mini photo sessions for your baby/child

We all want special photos of our children, and what better place to take them then the great outdoors! A place where our children love to be and play and grow. The *tiny tot* photo sessions last only 20 minutes in length so you don’t have to worry about your child getting squirmy, I want to capture them in their natural environment, walking through tall grass, picking a flower, running in the late day sun! You will then be provided with 5 images for your printing enjoyment! The price is $50 and the date is Monday June 21st, location to be annouced! Please message me for more details or booking, spaces are limited (we already have a couple little cuties that are in!)!!!

See you at the park!

*smize* for the camera

May 17, 2010

One of my sessions this past weekend was with a lovely new client Lindsay, who just wanted some good ol’ photos of herself!

I really enjoy doing shoots of one person on their own, it gives opportunity for a new kind of creativity, and a chance to try new things.  Lindsay and I had fun trying different poses (yes I tried them myself too) and we even had a laugh about trying to “smize” (smile with our eyes)  Here are some of my faves from the session.

It was great to meet you Lindsay, have fun with your new fresh photos!

*awaiting little one’s arrival*

May 6, 2010

Every single pregnancy and baby is special, and full of excitement and wonder…..but there is something about waiting for #1 that is filled with so much anticipation!  I remember waiting for our Ben (whom we didn’t know was a Ben at the time) I went 8 days past my due date and thought I would be pregnant forever!  I remember looking at our baby’s fresh clean clothes waiting to be worn, walking past the nursery and looking in at the empty crib a hundred times a day, just waiting and waiting to hold my precious baby in my arms, and not in my belly anymore!  I would wonder what our baby’s gender would be, what he/she would look like…dark hair?  NO hair?  And the list goes on, needless to say I was very excited to become a parent!

Which brings us to Jerry & Steph, a really wonderful couple that attend our church (Harvest Bible Chapel, York Region)  They are awaiting the arrival of their first little baby!  Steph was looking for some simple maternity photos, that were modest and helped her to remember her pregnancy and that beautiful belly she has been carrying around for almost 9 months!  We met in an outdoor location on a gorgeous sunny evening, and started to snap away.  Jerry and Steph thank you for letting me capture this special time in your lives, I know you will be amazing parents, and “baby bee” is so very blessed to be coming into the Bolton fam, soon to be 3 members!

Here are some of my faves from the shoot, Steph you are glowing and so very pretty!!  Jerry was looking great too, he has that “New Dad” glow!

big smiles * big heart * little girl

April 28, 2010

DSC_4154 This time exactly a year ago, I was due with our second child…I was pacing up and down the stairs trying to get my contractions going so I could meet our new baby…we didn’t know if we were having another boy, or a girl, so there was much anticipation.  Mia’s delivery was fast and intense (oh how I wished that epidural would have worked!) And you can imagine how thrilled I was when my hubby looked at me and said “It’s a GIRL!” I had to have him tell my twice!  The second I saw her I was beaming…with love and joy, and excitedness of the years ahead raising a little girl.

Mia Grace Estelle is our little “daisy” (nickname), full of smiles, giggles, cuddles, and sweet little words.  She is a gift from God, and has brought us so much joy!  On her dedication day Pastor Paul spoke about the meaning of her name “Mine”,  and how she was not “our’s” but God’s…God calls her “mine”.  I am thankful that Mia is in God’s hands, she is His, and that gives me great peace and contentment.  Our prayer for her is to continue to raise her up to know the Lord as her personal saviour, to serve Him, and love Him, whatever she does.  I pray that she would keep her sweet spirit of love, and share that love with others.  She is always ready to toddle over and give her Mommy or Daddy a hug, or lay her head down on our shoulder when she is tired, she can hold her own when it comes to Ben, and is so tolerant of his teasing and rough play.  She loves to smile and meet new people, I can already see what a big heart she has!

What a great first year we have spent with our darling little girl, and so much joy she has brought to us and her big brother Ben.  I can’t wait to watch her grow through the years, and see the person she will become.  We love you Mia Grace, and we love having you as part of our family!  Here are some photos from today (her “technical” last day as a baby)  that I would like to share, as you can see she is one smiley, happy little girl.

* grass, sun & chocolate *

April 2, 2010

This is less of a photography post and more of a family post…if you are into family and fun then proceed!

After a wonderful good friday service at our church this morning I read something really true tweeted by someone saying, remember: Today we don’t morn Christs death but rather our sin that CAUSED his death!  Jesus gave his life for me, so that I could be redeemed from my sins, and not just for me…for every one!  I pray that this message would be passed on to Ben and Mia as they grow and learn more about God and the sacrifice he made.  One way I do that is by reading bible picture stories to them, Ben is becoming more and more interested in stories from the bible and about Jesus, and that makes my heart happy.  I will just keep reading those stories and praying that God would plant a seed in his heart one day soon.

This afternoon we decided to do a little easter egg hunt, to enjoy the beautiful sunshine and make some fun family memories….here are some photos Chris and I took from the day…..

*love* is in the air! (engagement photo sessions)

March 4, 2010

My very first photo shoot a few years back when I was just starting to get more confident in my photography was an engagement shoot.  I loved the premise of the shoot, which was showcasing a guy and a girl who were freshly engaged and in total love with one another.  The holding of hands, the arm around a waist, the deep look of love and anticipation in their eyes, and of course some smooching.  Thanks Leanne & Kevin, for being my guinea pigs for my first “real” photo shoot!  Actually you can see their pics from that very session here on my blog, I posted them way back in the summer.  After that first engagement shoot I was hooked!  I couldn’t wait till the next one was booked!  Now that spring is finally approaching and the seasons are changing I am gearing up to book some more engagement sessions, and I am excited about it!  Here are some of my faves from previous shoots…….

five years of C & S

February 26, 2010

5 years ago today, I was a brand new bride, glowing, and standing beside my new husband with a grin on my face…our wedding was beautiful, simple and sweet, and on a beautiful sunny winter day with snowflakes softly falling to the ground, picturesque I would definitely say.  Planning that beautiful wedding wasn’t my very favorite thing in the world to do (I wasn’t one of those girls who had dreamed of her wedding day since she was 5) I just wanted to be married, and to start a life with this wonderful guy I had met 4 years prior to our wedding date.  But the actual day turned out to be so wonderful, and I look back on it very fondly.

DSC_1800

My 5 years of marriage to Chris have definitely been an adventure, between moving 5 times (including a BIG one where we lived in the Adirondack mountains of NY for 2 years) and two lovely children, we have kept busy and blessed.  Chris has had a passion to be in ministry since the day we met, and I consider it a privilege and my ministry to come along side of him in support of that desire to serve.  We long to live our lives for Christ and his will for us, and we try our best at that each and every day.  We long to be good parents, bringing up our children in the word and with lot’s of love.  We have similar hopes and dreams for our family, and we long to see them come one day.

I am so thankful for my husband, and I can see why God had us meet all those years ago.  Chris knows all my quirks and even though they drive him nuts sometimes, he loves me anyhow, and I am thankful for that.  I know that I have that love and support from him whenever I need him, and I am so blessed with his love and loyalty.  He has never held a grudge and has always been the first to come give me a hug or hold my hand (even if I am not ready for it!)  He takes care of our family and is so hard working for us and the Lord.  He has been spending time the last 6 months or so learning guitar and I am so proud of him for it, he is really getting the hang of it, and I am so glad he went for it and tried!  He’s a go getter that’s for sure, and he has always kept our lives full of surprises and opportunity.  I look back to when I first met him almost 10 years ago and I see how far God has taken us already, I am so thankful and blessed, and I look forward to what is to come.  I know that he will be there with me, holding my hand as we keep on going through this life God has given us.

I woke up to these flowers on my kitchen table this morning, and was thrilled :) it’s the little things that really get me.  Thanks hun for a wonderful first five years of marriage, I love you.

first walking…NOW pigtails??!

February 19, 2010

So…today I had a little fun with Mia’s hair…she is almost 10 months old and already WALKING, yes that’s right….both my kids have been “early” walkers, I don’t know if that’s a good thing or not!  We used to joke that once Ben started walking at 10 months old, we never saw him again :) but alas we did, and we DO see him, just in faster paced intervals.  Somedays it feels like Mia’s “babyhood” is flying away so fast…and then other days I cuddle her in my lap watching her have her bottle and I know she’s still my little baby.

From the day she was born Mia had a full head of hair, then a lot of it got rubbed off from sleeping…and then it grew back and has kept on growing ever since.  I decided to try out some pigtails a few weeks ago, but it wasn’t quite long enough in the back and sufficed to say it wasn’t her best hair day.  So I tried again today, and you gotta understand that after having a boy first I have been literally WAITing to get my hands on a little girls hair!!  So I was quite pleased when I saw this….

DSC_1549

DSC_1531

Pigtails!!!  To me this is a monumental moment in a little girls life….FIRST pigtails!!   So yes I had to document it….Here she is (above) handing me back the brush, with a cheeky little expression to boot :)

DSC_1571

DSC_1587Our little sweetie, we just love her so much…she has brought SO much joy into our lives….the first thing Ben asks for when he wakes up (other then wanting to watch Mickey Mouse clubhouse) is for his Mia!  He just can’t get enough of her either, and he is a VERY good big brother (rough at times, not really realized that Mia can’t wrestle yet, she can hold her own though!) But if anyone is getting too close to her that Ben doesn’t really know he’ll stand up and say “That’s my baby sister!” it’s like he is staking his claim on her.  Very sweet to see them together….here is one last photo of the two of them……

DSC_1509All I can say is how thankful I am each and every day for God’s blessings…..

*a taste of summer* in the middle of winter…

February 9, 2010

The last few months have been very COLD *brrr* and I do like winter for a time, especially around Christmas.  I like sweaters and scarves and hot cocoa….but when it gets to the beginning of February, and you know there is still a good few more months left until the weather is going to warm up, it definitely makes you miss the summer time.  OH glorious summer time, the days of bare feet in the grass, walks to the park, popcicles and LOT’S of time spent outdoors.  My son Ben loves when he can spend the day digging in the sandbox, running through the sprinkler, and going to the park, and I am sure Mia is going to love this summer even more then last, especially since I am sure she will be walking by the time the sun decides to show itself.

Which brings me to the photos I am sharing with you today….which were captured last August in the lovely sunny summertime!  I posted some of these “Trash the Dress” shots back in August, but not all of them….so I decided what better time to show the rest of them, then in the middle of winter, to help bring a little bit of sunshine.  My sister and her two friends offered to be my “models” for this fun trash the ‘prom’ dress photo session…we went to several locations and had a great time!  We hopped over fences, drove around searching for the perfect hay bails, and got a little bit wet wading in the water.  I had fun looking back on them, have a look yourself….

*9 months old* (already?)

January 26, 2010

Everyday I look at my little girl, I can’t believe how fast she is growing up.  During Ben’s first year all I wanted was for him to sit up on his own, eat “real” food, then walk, then talk….I was always looking for the next big milestone, never really taking the time to enjoy the stage he was in at the time.  Now Chris and I look at our big 3 year old boy and gasp sometimes, how did he get to be such a little boy romping around ,talking in full sentances and doing his thing?  He is definitely our parenting challenge I tell ya!  God is teaching me patience!

Well….when Mia was born I vowed to just enjoy every stage she went through without rushing to the next, but this little girl seems to WANT to rush!  Once she finally sat up on her own, she didn’t stop, crawling, pulling up to standing, cruising, and now even some ‘bambi’ steps on her own, and I am thinking SLOW down little one, slow down!  (side note: as least she’s not talking yet besides the occasional “dadda”!)

I love having little ones, and to see them grown and change and develop is such a blessing, but a little sad at the same time…I am sure other Mommy’s can relate to that feeling.  I guess that’s why I take so many photos of my kids, I want to remember everything!!  I know and realize just how fast it really does pass you by, and I know people think I am crazy for the amount of photos I take of my kids (believe me I have got comments!) but when it comes down to it, I don’t think I will ever regret having so many wonderful photo’s to look back on!  Here are some of Mia’s 9 month shots…I bought this hat months ago with a ‘winter’ photo shoot in mind…

*in memory of my dear aunt*

January 19, 2010

Just to warn you…this is less of a photography post, and more of a writing post…..last week our family lost our Great Aunt Dodie, my Mom’s Aunt, and my Nanny’s dear sister.  Usually when someone says their “great aunt” passed away, you think…oh some little old lady that no one was very close to.  In this situation, it was much different, my Great Aunt Dodie was a Grandmother to me in more ways then I can count!  The morning after I found out she had passed away, I wrote this for her…not because I wanted to read it at her funeral (not much of a public speaker) but because I wanted to write something for her that would do her justice, that would show how special she really was to us and to so many.  She will be dearly missed in many ways, but we are so very happy and thankful that she is walking on the streets of gold with her saviour.

DSC_9870 {flowers from her memorial, all the girls were given some to take home…Dodie loved pink, one of the many things we had in common}

In Memory….. Geraldine Alberta Thompson {1916-2010}

As a small girl, I remember going up the elevator to the almost very top of a tall apartment building to visit with my Great Aunt Dodie.  My sister and I would spend the weekend there quite frequently, and we always looked forward to it.  I remember that elevator door opening and looking to the right, and there she was standing at her door waiting for us with a big smile, and usually her apron on.  We would run full speed into her arms and giver her a big hug and wave good bye to our Mom or Dad never looking back.  Her house always smelled like delicious homemade food, because there was always something cooking at Dodie’s.  Our weekends were usually spent playing with Dodie’s clothes and scarves, she always let us play dress up and dance around her apartment with music playing from a record.  Dodie would read to us, let us do crafts, take us swimming at the pool, and there was always the essential McDonalds lunch and dollar store excursion.  I think she secretly liked those McDonald’s lunch’s more then us!  She would always give us exact change for two items at the dollar store, $2.30.  I remember the time that Lisa and I decided we wanted to get something for Dodie at the dollar store instead of for ourselves, and she had that little teddy bear sitting in her room right up until the end.  She appreciated the small things.  I remember funny things about her apartment like that fact that she froze her milk bags, and always had 6.80 news playing while she cooked, her pink frilly shower curtain and pink soap in her guest bathroom, her bible sitting on her bed stand… What I remember most though is her patience with us kids.  She always had that calm patience with us and never ever raised her voice.  She had a way of teaching us and calming us with her words.  Her many years of teaching must have helped her blossom in this gift.  She even spent time tutoring me in math when I wad having lot’s of trouble with it  in school.  She was always invested in us, always willing to help us, and always wanting to keep us on the right track.

If we weren’t at Dodie’s apartment she was helping out at our house, Mom worked part time evenings so Dodie would come by at least one night a week to give us dinner and put us kids  to bed until Mom or Dad got home.  She was always so very loving, but always made sure we stuck to the rules, it was the principal in her!  She always made sure we ate well, got our homework done and got to bed on time.  Mom appreciated her help so much, I am sure she never thought twice that we were in the best possible care when Dodie was watching us.  We would sit around and talk,  Dodie always wanted me to get into figure skating, every time she saw me she tried to talk me out of Ballet and into skating, sadly it didn’t work, but she sure tried!  She took us on a trip to Halifax when I was about 12 years old, and endured Lisa and I bickering in the backseat of the car during the whole entire Cabot trail, let’s just say she did turn her hearing aid off for a while on that trip.  I so appreciated that trip, and look back on it, and the photos fondly.  She wanted to show us where she grew up, and it was something I will always remember.

Dodie was an amazing example of modesty and beauty, her hair was always pinned up into a perfect french roll, even on a Saturday at home she would put on her tights and skirt, earrings and a little make up, she always looked top notch and put together, and she was put together inside too.  She was an amazing example of an unwavering Follower of God, and she always encouraged us to do the same.  Her love for God shined through her eyes to others, She kept it no secret who her Lord and Saviour was.  “My Daily Bread” was always seen next to her bible on the bed stand and was passed to my Mom after she was finished going through it.   Looking back I am so thankful for that wonderful example of a Godly woman in my life, she even encouraged me over and over to follow in the waters of baptism, because she knew it was what God wanted for me.  She never wavered, never gave up, and never fell away, and there is much to be said for that in this day in age.  Even when she found the man she loved, and he wasn’t a follower of Christ, she wouldn’t marry him, and stayed single for her entire lifetime, because she was obeying God and his commands.  She will have many jewels on her crown, and her example will always live on in my heart, my siblings and cousin’s hearts and all the children she taught over her lifetime.  Lastly I will remember her laugh, her infectious hollering laugh that she couldn’t stop once started.  I can still see her now smiling and laughing.  I will always strive to be as patient with my children as you were with us, Thank you Dodie for the influence you were and are in our lives, you will always live on in the many things you have taught us, and of course every time I eat a slice of cherry pie, or smell homemade macaroni and cheese bubbling in the oven I will ALWAYS think of you.

Much Love, Shelley

Matthew 11:25-30 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you asthe world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

***As a side note, some interesting things I was reminded of again at her memorial service….her first job was as a teacher in a one room school house in Nova Scotia (a real live Anne, or Christy!)  She rented a place to teach the students from her school bible stories, she paid to rent it out of her own money because she wanted those kids to know the Word, and she wasn’t able to do it in public school.  She sent many troubled teens to camp so they could hear the word of God! ***

Baby Travis (10 wks old)

January 11, 2010

I KNEW I was long overdue for a blog post, sometimes I am so set on updating my FB with new photos that I forgot all about my blog, and the blog is very important I know!  And then, I wasn’t sure what to do a post on, I have shoots from  months ago that I never blogged about, but I wanted to do something recent, and close to my heart.  SO this is what I came up with…..Meet Baby Travis James, he is my BFF Barbara’s second little boy, and this is him at 10 weeks old.  We planned to come meet the new little fella MUCH earlier, but with colds, and fevers and then the holidays it has taken until last week for us to finally make the drive and do it.  Travis is a sweet, smiley and pudgy little guy, He is already the same weight as Mia who is 8 mos old!!  I enjoyed holding him, and having him fall asleep on my shoulder to give his Mommy a little break, and of course I had to take some photo’s of the little man!  I wanted to show these photo’s because even though I don’t have a studio or any equipment really (praying one day that will come!)  That I can still get some special shots right inside someone’s home, with just me my D60, 35mm lens, and natural light!  I love the look of natural light photos, especially with baby photos, which is good cause that’s what I will be working with until I can get a rich person to be my friend (do you know of anyone??) hehe…

I know she is always there for me, and we can always pick up right where we left off!  I hope you can enjoy these photo’s of your precious little Travis for years to come!  And now I hear my own little munchkin waking up!  Here I go!
