E & D {engaged}

I met up with Elise and Dan a few weeks back to shoot their engagement photos, Dan was a bit hesitant to be in front of the camera, but I am happy to say half way through the session he announced “wow this is way easier then I thought it was going to be!” I think he even enjoyed it a bit.  Can’t wait to shoot their wedding day in just a matter of weeks!  Check out some images from their sweet session…

S & A {married} Wedding photography

A few weeks ago I had an amazing time shooting Steph and Andrews beautiful outdoor summer wedding.  From the minute I arrived the bride was so calm cool and collected and I knew it would be a wonderful day.  I absolutely loved her colours, and venue and thought that the photo spots they had scouted out ahead of time were fabulous, and soo much fun to shoot in.  Who doesn’t like to wade in the water at the top of a waterfall to get a shot?  It was so hard to narrow down my favorites, so this post is pretty large, but also pretty enjoyable!  Thanks for coming by to check out my latest wedding shots!  And a BIG congrats to the happy couple, who had a well deserved gorgeous day to celebrate their marriage.  Now for some lovely images….

cherish your dress

Last week I had such a great time with Paul and Marilyn at our “Cherish the Dress” session…what is Cherish the Dress do you say?  It’s a chance to get in your wedding dress again, but this time with a more casual approach, maybe not be so afraid to sit on the ground in your white dress, or stand in a field with it…your hair is more casual, your shoes are more comfy, and you are relaxed, and able to get some special portraits with you and your now husband, to cherish and enjoy.  Who says you can only wear the dress once?  Many choose to do CTD (cherish the dress) sessions as an anniversary gift or date idea, or just out of the blue for fun!  Marilyn and Paul were my first official Bride and Groom, so I was so excited when Mare contacted me on the idea of doing this session for their anniversary, I couldn’t wait.  We had such a fun time, got honked at A LOT, and come out of it with amazing shots for them to Cherish for years to come.  Take a look at some images from our session…

If you are interested in having photos taken in your wedding dress, but don’t necessarily want to “trash” your dress, then a Cherish session is perfect for you!  As a summer promotion I am going to offer $50 off the package price to next 3 Bride’s that book a CTD session with me, that is an awesome deal!! And now you can go persuade your hubby’s and contact me at shelleysomers@gmail.com  I can’t wait for some more Cherish sessions in the near future!

newborn photography {when baby wont sleep}

Yesterday I had the chance to photograph a 15 day old baby boy, he was so very cute, even though he is so young he has the features of a big boy, and he also had the strength of a big boy!  When I first arrived I was able to capture some shots of him sleeping in his bassinet, and then we tried to pose him…and then we tried again, and again and again, little Oskar was not interested, he cutely squirmed his way out of every position we tried!  So I thought I’d post this session as a good example of things you can do when even after hours of attempting the newborn wont get into a deep ‘posable’ sleep.  So what I did was just do my best to capture him the way he was…awake!  All his different facial expressions were so sweet, and really showcased  his personality in the photos.  I was also able to get a lot of shots of him cradled in his parents arms, which was where he was most happy and comfortable.  Going through the images after I was so happy with them!  I love to capture a newborn in their own element and in this case I really believe I did!  Check out some of my favorites…

the mirecki {zoo}

Last saturday evening I had the chance to photograph a sweet family from our church, affectionately  known as The Mirecki Zoo.  We picked a location with lot’s of green to showcase their families favorite colour (check out Dad’s business carpages.ca, if you live in town you may see his green car jetting around) (and check out Mom’s blog http://cafemirecki.blogspot.com/ she is a homeschooling/baking Mama with a heart for the Lord)  We had a great time snapping away during our session, with breaks for “nibs” candy in between of course, and I am so pleased with the shots, enjoy Mirecki family!  Here are some of my faves…hard to just choose a few!
